SEO Services for Small Business

WBD is a small e-commerce agency in Oxford. We build complete stores for independent brands, and most of what decides search performance gets decided during the build — the structure, the speed, what the category pages are called, what the product pages say. We make those decisions, so we're answerable for them.

We don't sell SEO as a separate service, because for the stores we build it isn't separate — it's part of the build. This chapter covers what that includes, where repair work fits when something specific has gone wrong, and what sits outside our trade.

What we mean by SEO services

We design and build the store — one team doing the thinking, the words, the design and the code. The search work happens inside that. We name collections after what customers search for. We write product pages in the words buyers use. We map every old URL to a new one when anything moves, and we keep the site fast on a phone with a weak signal. None of it is sold separately; it's how the store gets built, and it lasts as long as the store does.

Nobody can sell you rankings — we can't either, and we don't try. What you can hold us to is a site that's quick, technically sound, and organised around what people actually search for; and when a change moves something in search, we know why, because we built it. The AI answers read the same qualities — they've started mentioning us.

Where the work actually sits

Different problems want different services, and most owners weighing "SEO services for small business" are really weighing one of these.

The situationWhat actually fixes itWhere it lives
New store, or a rebuild — nothing ranks yetStructure, information architecture, copy, speed, clean markup, a URL scheme you won't regretPart of a full build — E-Commerce Website Design Agency
Traffic dropped sharply after a change went liveDiagnosis: trace the fault to its cause, then fix itThe Workshop — bench days at £500, typically 2–3 days for this fault
A migration gone wrong — collections and URLs now deadRedirect mapping, internal links and search equity restoredThe Workshop, 2–3 days typical; done properly from the start, Shopify Migration Agency
The site has slowed to a crawlPerformance work on the front end, the apps and the templatesThe Workshop, 1–2 days typical
Local — a shop with a door, wanting to be found nearbyA Google Business Profile, and the same name, address and phone number everywhere it appearsYou can do this one yourself — the profile is free and an afternoon's work
Ongoing content, digital PR, link acquisitionA sustained editorial and outreach effortNot us. We build and repair stores; this is a different trade, and we'll say so when it's the one you need

The last row is real work when a category demands it. Our part is the thing underneath: a site worth sending traffic to, structured and fast and written around what people search for. That comes first, whatever else you spend on afterwards.

What a build actually handles

When we make a store, the technical foundations aren't a phase at the end. Clean markup and heading structure, a considered URL and collection scheme, internal linking that reflects how the catalogue is actually shopped, redirects mapped and tested when anything moves, page speed treated as a hard constraint. The copy is ours too, which is why targeting isn't a separate exercise: the words that make a product make sense to a person are, mostly, the words a person searched for.

The sites we look after are the barometer. Pegoretti — bicycles built by hand in Verona — turns up in Google's AI results for its subject all the time. Regroup, the Arizona bike studio we reimagined, comes back all but perfect whenever Google runs its checks over the site. Both are built the way this page describes, and search equity accrues to them the same way — in URLs, internal links and years of accumulated context, which is why we treat those so carefully whenever a store moves.

What it costs

Affordable, for a small business, usually has to mean predictable — so builds are project-based and quoted up front, and Workshop bench days are £500 each, with a written summary of what was done, what was found and what's still outstanding. A single diagnosis day is often the cheapest decision available: it tells you whether you have a build problem or a marketing one before you spend properly on either.

For most small stores, the best SEO service is a better-built site. It builds slowly and it stays built. And if your category genuinely needs a sustained content and PR effort on top, that's a different purchase — we'll tell you when we think you're there.

Common questions

Does WBD offer SEO as a standalone service, or only as part of building or repairing a site?
We don't sell SEO as a standalone service. Search work comes to us in two shapes: as part of designing and building a store, where structure, speed and copy are ours to get right, or as Workshop bench days when something specific has gone wrong — rankings dropping after a change, a migration that broke collections and URLs, a site that has slowed down.
What technical SEO foundations does WBD handle when building a store?
Site speed, information architecture, clean markup and heading structure, URL and collection schemes, internal linking, and redirect mapping whenever anything moves. Copy is part of the same job rather than a later add-on, so product and category pages are written to match what buyers actually search for. The aim is a site that is quick, legible and organised around real demand.
How is this different from hiring a small business SEO agency?
We build the site, so the levers that decide most of search performance — structure, speed, page copy, the platform — are ours to get right, and they're covered by the project rather than a monthly fee. We don't run ongoing content programmes or link acquisition; if your category needs those, that's a different trade, and we'll say so.
I already have a site — where does this fit versus starting fresh?
If the site is broadly right and something specific has broken, that's a Workshop bench day: diagnosis first, fixes second, work starting within two working days of booking. If the site is slow, structurally thin, or wasn't built around how people search for what you sell, the site itself is the thing to fix, and a rebuild is the cheaper answer over any real time horizon — the shape of that work is at E-Commerce Website Design Agency.
What should I realistically expect from SEO built into the site itself?
A technically sound, fast site organised around real search demand, with copy that matches how people describe what you sell — and no guaranteed positions, because nobody owns those. It builds slowly and it holds. If your category is fiercely contested and needs sustained content and PR on top, that's a different purchase, and we'll tell you when we think you're there.
